A warm welcome to Christ Church from the Rector, "Father David"      Greetings in the name of the Risen Christ!  It is my pleasure to welcome you to our Christ Church Parish web site. As you work your way from button to page, you will soon discover that, in the words of our mission statement, Christ Church is a dynamic parish experience through which you and your family can better "...know Christ and make him known."

Our common life and ministry can be described as a dance in three movements:

An upward movement of worship and praise.

An inward movement of education and fellowship.

An outward movement of evangelism and community service.

Within each movement there are many ways to receive and to share. Maybe you are at a place in your life where you need to sit back and enjoy worship, without having to do anything. Maybe you are hungry for personal discovery and spiritual formation and growth. Or, maybe you're ready to roll up your sleeves and delve into a meaningful experience of outreach. Wherever you may be, you are welcome in our community and there is a place for you right now.

I invite you to come and worship with us this Sunday morning. You will be warmly welcomed. You will notice that we comprise many families with children of all ages, as well as many in the "over 55" category. I look forward to meeting you soon. In the meantime, please feel free to call our office 410-643-5921 or e-mail me at frdavid4christ@verizon.net, if I may be of service to you or yours.

In the love of Christ,

David+

The Vision of Christ Church

Christ Church has been around for a long time. Our first members arrived from the Jamestown colony in 1631 and the parish was officially organized in 1632 on the south end of what became known as the Isle of Kent - 380 years ago. We are the first and longest continuing Christian congregation in Maryland. In 1650, the church moved up the island to Broad Creek until 1880, when it moved to Stevensville. Fifteen years ago, the congregation opened its arms and doors to the growing population of Kent Island and it became necessary to build a new facility for worship and education. It was tough to leave the beloved 1880 site, with its romantic "Carpenter Gothic" architecture and quaint villiage-by-the-bay feel. Nevertheless, the move to the expansive Route 8 property on Camp Wright enabled us to have a larger parking lot, sanctuary and Christian education wing. This missionary spirit has resulted in a harvest of many new souls whom God has brought to us to hear the Good News of Christ and to grow in his love and service. The vision to continue welcoming others and expanding the Kingdom of God is now in its next phase, with the completion in 2007 of our new sanctuary and expanded office facilities. We were very blessed to welcome our presiding bishop, The Most. Rev. Katharine Jefferts-Schori, to consecrate the new buildings. The Bible says, "Where there is no vision the people perish." Christ Church is thriving precisely because God's vision (by God's grace) is being honored, discerned and embraced by the our Vestry and other leaders. In a word, we believe that the Church exists for the sake of its non-members. We are dedicated to serving those God sends to us and helping to equip them for ministry in the world. Come join us and be part of God's vision for the Eastern Shore of Maryland!
