Christian Education for Children

This is one of our most important ministries at Christ Church. Our Sunday School program starts with Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) and goes up through High School, with individual classes for each grade (though some merging of grades does occur each year based on class size). We currently have approximately 175 children registered in our Sunday School. The program begins in mid-September and goes through May. Modified summer Sunday school runs May through mid-September. Classes begin at 9:45 am on Sunday morning, just before the 10:00 am service and the children re-join their parents at the Peace, just prior to sharing the Eucharist.

We make every effort to integrate the children with the services to give them a real sense of belonging and to understand the "mechanics" of our services.  Each month, usually on the third Sunday, a different Sunday School class takes part in what we call a "Class-led" Eucharist.  Each member of the class takes on a role (or several) in the service usually held by an adult, from greeter and usher to reader and element bearer and the older grades have the option of writing the sermon for the day. 

First Communion classes are offered for 2nd Graders during the late winter. The program culminates with a special presentation during a 10 am service in April 18th.

Confirmation for the 9th graders will begins in late winter and culminates in a special service with the Bishop Shand in May.

 Nursery

 We offer a secure Nursery with a caring, paid staff member, Miss Deborah, so that children get consistent attention from someone special with whom they can develop a bond.  The Nursery is available during our 10:00 am service.  If you would like to have Nursery care during the 8:00 am service, please call ahead with at least 48 hrs notice and we will arrange for care to be available.
